Sweden › Stockholm · VERA PI Camera
Point your phone at a building.
VERA PI Camera reads where you stand and which way your phone faces, finds the building in front of you among the 508,409 buildings of Stockholms län, and asks you to confirm it. Then its street opens – the area around it, the walk to the station, the schools near it and the homes for sale on it.
On a phone with GPS and a compass, outdoors, with the building in sight. Nothing is photographed and your position is not stored: the picture stays on your phone.
How it works
Aim, confirm, open.
- Aim at the buildingStand where you can see it, hold the phone up and point it at the façade. The camera uses your position (GPS) and your heading (the compass) – the picture itself is never sent anywhere.
- Confirm what it foundVERA PI casts a narrow fan of sight lines, up to 250 m, against the outline of every building around you and shows the best match with its address. You say whether it is the one – or pick another in view.
- Open its streetThe street’s page opens: the buildings along it, who lives in its area (SCB’s figures), the walk to the nearest station, the schools within 500 m and the homes for sale on it.
What the camera shows
The building, as far as the open records go.
Every building carries what VERA PI can say about it honestly – and says so when a fact is missing.
- Its addressesThe street numbers on the building, from OpenStreetMap’s address points, and its street’s page.
- The kommun and the stadsdelWhere the building lies – Stockholms län’s 26 kommuner, Stockholm stad’s stadsdelar.
- Its heightIn Stockholm stad from the city’s own 3D model (the median roof height, measured from the air); elsewhere where OpenStreetMap has it.
- When it was built, and by whomOn Östermalm from Stadsmuseet’s building inventories – the year of the permit and of the final inspection, and the architect; elsewhere the year where OpenStreetMap has one.
- The housing associationOn Östermalm, the registered name of the bostadsrättsförening where VERA PI has matched it to the address – the association’s name only.
- The street’s VERA PI Score, and what is for saleIn Stockholm stad, the street’s score of getting around, parks, schools and the area’s income – and how many homes on the street are for sale at asking prices.
What the camera never shows, and why
- No flat. A façade does not identify a unit: the camera finds a building and its street, never a home inside it – no floor, no flat number, no listing at the building.
- No owner and no one who lives there. VERA PI shows no person’s name – only a historical architect’s from Stadsmuseet’s inventories, and a housing association’s registered name.
- No guess. The camera shows what it found and you confirm it; when two buildings fit the picture, or the GPS is uncertain, it says so and lets you choose.
- No record of you. Your position and heading are used for the one answer and are not stored; no photograph is taken or sent – the camera picture stays on your phone.
- No property boundary and no sale price: Lantmäteriet’s registers are not open data, and SCB publishes prices by kommun and län only.
Sources and licences
Every figure, and where it comes from.
The outlines and addresses are OpenStreetMap’s (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0), built 2026-10-20; in Stockholm stad the outlines and heights are Stockholms stad’s 3D model (SBK 3D-Byggnader LOD1, © Stockholms stad, Stadsbyggnadskontoret, open data). An address belongs to the building that holds its point, or to the nearest building within 15 m; its street is the street page of the same name in the building’s kommun. Outlines are simplified to half a metre.
